Who This Is For / When to Use
This update applies to accounts using Missed Call Text Back to automatically send an SMS after an unanswered call.
It is especially useful when incoming calls use:
Number pools.
Call tracking numbers.
Toll-free numbers that are not verified for messaging.
Phone numbers that can receive calls but are not eligible to send SMS.
When the number the contact called cannot send SMS, Kyrios can automatically use another eligible number instead.
What Changed
Previously, Missed Call Text Back attempted to send the follow-up SMS from the same number the contact called. If that number could not send SMS, the message could fail even when another eligible messaging number was available in the account.
Kyrios now checks whether the originally called number can send SMS. If it cannot, Kyrios automatically selects another eligible sending number. This improves the likelihood that missed-call follow-up messages are sent successfully without requiring manual number selection.
How Kyrios Selects the Sending Number
When a missed call triggers Missed Call Text Back, Kyrios first checks the number the contact originally called. If that number can send SMS, Kyrios uses it.
If that number cannot send SMS, Kyrios checks for another eligible number in this order:
A number that has previously been used successfully to message the contact.
The account's default outbound number.
Another eligible messaging number available in the account.
Kyrios uses the first eligible number available in this selection order.
What Contacts May Notice
Most contacts will receive the missed-call follow-up message as usual.
In some cases, the SMS may come from a different number than the one the contact originally called. This is expected behavior. Kyrios selects a number that is eligible to send the message instead of attempting to send from a number that cannot send SMS.
When a Different Number May Be Used
Kyrios may select a different sending number when the number the contact called is not eligible to send SMS.
Examples can include:
Number pool numbers.
Call tracking numbers.
Unverified toll-free numbers.
Other numbers that can receive calls but are not currently eligible for messaging.
If an eligible alternative number is available, Kyrios automatically uses it according to the number-selection order.
Messaging Requirements and Contact Preferences
Smarter number selection does not bypass messaging requirements or contact communication preferences.
Kyrios continues to respect:
Applicable A2P messaging requirements.
Toll-free verification requirements.
Contact communication preferences.
Do Not Disturb settings.
The feature only changes which eligible sending number is selected for the missed-call follow-up SMS.
What Does Not Change
The following Missed Call Text Back behavior remains unchanged:
Answered calls do not trigger a text back.
No message is sent when Missed Call Text Back is disabled in Phone System settings.
Contact communication preferences continue to be respected.
Do Not Disturb settings continue to be respected.
What Happens If No Eligible Number Is Available
If Kyrios cannot find an eligible number to send the missed-call SMS, the message will not be sent. The failed attempt appears in the conversation with the reason for the failure. This gives you visibility into why the text was not sent.
Example
A contact calls a tracking number that can receive calls but cannot send SMS.
The call is missed. Kyrios checks the tracking number first. Because it is not eligible to send SMS, Kyrios looks for another eligible sending number.
If the account has previously sent a successful message to that contact from another eligible number, Kyrios uses that number. If no previously used number is eligible, Kyrios checks the default outbound number.
If the default outbound number is also unavailable or ineligible, Kyrios checks for another eligible messaging number in the account. If no eligible number is available, the message fails and the reason is shown in the conversation.
Common Issues and Fixes
The Missed Call Text Back came from a different number than the contact called
This can happen when the originally called number cannot send SMS.
Kyrios automatically selects another eligible sending number so the follow-up has a better chance of being sent.
The Missed Call Text Back was not sent
Check whether an eligible SMS-capable number is available in the account.
If no eligible number is available, the failed attempt and failure reason appear in the conversation. Also confirm that Missed Call Text Back is enabled in Phone System settings.
A toll-free number did not send the follow-up SMS
An unverified toll-free number may not be eligible to send SMS.
When that happens, Kyrios checks for another eligible sending number. If no eligible number is available, the message fails.
No text was sent after a call was answered
This is expected behavior.
Missed Call Text Back only applies to missed calls. Answered calls do not trigger the automated follow-up message.
FAQ
Why did my Missed Call Text Back come from a different number?
Kyrios first tries to send the SMS from the number the contact originally called.
If that number cannot send SMS, Kyrios automatically selects another eligible number in this order:
A number previously used successfully to message the contact.
The account's default outbound number.
Another eligible messaging number in the account.
Will Kyrios always text from the number the contact called?
No. Kyrios uses the originally called number only when that number is eligible to send SMS. If it cannot send SMS, Kyrios automatically selects another eligible number.
What happens if the number the contact called cannot send SMS?
Kyrios automatically looks for another eligible sending number.
It first checks for a number previously used successfully with the contact, then the account's default outbound number, and then another eligible messaging number.
What happens if there is no eligible number available?
The Missed Call Text Back message will not be sent.
The failed attempt and the reason for the failure will appear in the conversation.
Does this change affect answered calls?
No. Answered calls continue to work as before and do not trigger Missed Call Text Back.
Will a text be sent if Missed Call Text Back is disabled?
No. If Missed Call Text Back is disabled in Phone System settings, no automated missed-call follow-up message is sent.
Does smarter number selection ignore Do Not Disturb settings?
No. Contact communication preferences and Do Not Disturb settings continue to be respected.
Why might a call tracking number or toll-free number not be used for the text back?
Some numbers can receive calls but may not be eligible to send SMS. This can include number pool numbers, call tracking numbers, unverified toll-free numbers, or other numbers that do not meet current messaging requirements. When that happens, Kyrios uses another eligible number when one is available.
