How Native WhatsApp Voice Notes Work
New WhatsApp voice notes sent from Kyrios are delivered using WhatsApp's native voice-note format. This means the voice note can appear directly in the WhatsApp conversation with inline playback controls instead of appearing as a separate downloadable audio attachment.
In Kyrios, WhatsApp voice messages also appear directly in the conversation history and can be played from the message thread.
Send a WhatsApp Voice Note from Conversations
To send a WhatsApp voice note from Kyrios:
Open Conversations.
Select the contact's WhatsApp conversation.
Confirm WhatsApp is the selected messaging channel.
Use the available audio or microphone control to record or attach the voice message.
Review the recording if the interface provides playback or recording controls.
Send the message.
Kyrios handles the supported WhatsApp voice-note formatting when the new voice note is sent through Conversations. No WhatsApp message template is required when the voice note is sent within an active WhatsApp customer service session. WhatsApp template requirements can still apply when initiating communication outside the permitted messaging window.
What the Contact Sees in WhatsApp
A native voice note appears directly in the contact's WhatsApp conversation with standard WhatsApp playback controls. If WhatsApp voice message transcripts are enabled and the voice message is supported, WhatsApp can also display transcription text with the voice note.
How WhatsApp Voice Message Transcriptions Work
Voice message transcription is a WhatsApp feature controlled by the recipient's device and WhatsApp settings. Kyrios does not control whether a transcript appears for a contact. When transcription is available and enabled in WhatsApp:
The recipient can request a transcript for supported voice messages.
The transcript appears inside the WhatsApp conversation.
The available transcription language is determined by the recipient's WhatsApp settings and supported options.
If transcription is disabled or unsupported, the voice note can still be played normally without transcript text.
The availability and behavior of transcription may vary based on the recipient's version of WhatsApp, device, language, and WhatsApp feature availability.
Enable Voice Message Transcripts in WhatsApp
This setting is configured by the recipient in WhatsApp, not by a Kyrios user.
In WhatsApp, the recipient can:
Open Settings.
Open Chats.
Select Voice message transcripts.
Choose the available transcription option.
Select a supported Transcript language, if prompted.
Who Controls the Transcript
The contact's WhatsApp application controls voice message transcription.
Kyrios:
Sends the supported voice note to WhatsApp.
Displays WhatsApp voice messages in the Kyrios conversation.
Does not require a separate Kyrios transcription setting for the recipient's WhatsApp transcript feature.
WhatsApp:
Determines whether voice message transcription is available on the recipient's device.
Controls whether transcription is enabled.
Controls the selected transcription language.
Displays the resulting transcript inside the WhatsApp application.
If a recipient cannot see transcription options, the Kyrios user cannot enable that WhatsApp setting on the recipient's behalf.
Audio Format and Message Limits
WhatsApp voice notes sent through the supported Kyrios experience use the format required for native WhatsApp voice-note delivery. Kyrios handles the necessary conversion when the voice note is sent through Conversations, so users do not need to manually convert a recording before sending it.
Native WhatsApp voice notes use OGG/Opus for delivery.
A voice note can be up to 10 minutes long.
WhatsApp or Meta may retain media for a limited period, which can affect the availability of older audio.
These limits can depend on WhatsApp platform behavior and should not be interpreted as controls configured within Kyrios.
Existing Voice Notes Are Not Converted Retroactively
Native voice-note delivery applies to newly sent supported WhatsApp voice notes.
Previously sent audio messages or attachment-style messages remain in the format in which they were originally delivered. Kyrios does not retroactively convert older WhatsApp audio messages into native voice notes.
Common Issues and Fixes
A voice note plays, but no transcript appears
Transcription is controlled by the recipient's WhatsApp settings. The recipient should check WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts and confirm that transcription is available and enabled.
The recipient does not have a Voice message transcripts setting
WhatsApp determines device, language, and feature availability. If the setting is not available in the recipient's WhatsApp application, Kyrios cannot enable it.
The transcript is in the wrong language
The recipient should review the Transcript language setting in WhatsApp. Transcript language selection is controlled on the recipient's device.
An older audio message does not look like a native voice note
Older audio messages are not automatically converted. Native delivery applies to newly sent supported voice notes.
A voice message appears in Kyrios but the transcript does not
WhatsApp's recipient-side transcript is not the same as a transcript generated or displayed by Kyrios. A transcript shown in the recipient's WhatsApp application should not be expected to automatically appear in the Kyrios conversation.
A very old voice note is unavailable
WhatsApp or Meta may make older media unavailable after its media-retention period. If the original media is no longer available, playback may not be possible from the older conversation entry.
FAQ
Do I need a WhatsApp template to send every voice note?
No. A template is not required when replying within WhatsApp's active customer service messaging window. WhatsApp template requirements can apply when initiating outbound communication outside that window.
Does Kyrios create the WhatsApp voice message transcript?
No. The transcription described in this article is provided by the recipient's WhatsApp application. WhatsApp controls whether transcription is available, enabled, and displayed.
Are WhatsApp transcripts stored in Kyrios?
The recipient-side WhatsApp transcript described in this feature is not generated by Kyrios and should not be treated as a Kyrios-stored transcript.
Where does the recipient enable voice message transcription?
The recipient can check WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Voice message transcripts. The exact options available depend on the recipient's WhatsApp application and device.
Can a contact reply to Kyrios with a WhatsApp voice note?
Yes. Incoming WhatsApp voice notes can appear in the contact's conversation in Kyrios and can be played from the conversation thread.
Will existing audio messages be converted into native WhatsApp voice notes?
