What Is an RSS Feed?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication.

An RSS feed is an XML file that automatically updates when new content is published on a website.

Key characteristics of RSS feeds:

  • XML stands for Extensible Markup Language

  • XML files store and share structured data between systems

  • RSS feeds maintain a list of new updates or notifications

  • Subscribers automatically receive new content from the feed

In email marketing, RSS feeds allow campaigns to pull in newly published content without manual updates.

How RSS Works in Email Marketing

When you create an RSS Email Campaign in Kyrios, you can:

  • Select an email template

  • Design the email layout and content

  • Add RSS-specific blocks to display feed items

  • Schedule delivery based on RSS frequency

Available RSS scheduling options include:

  • Daily

  • Weekly

  • Monthly

  • Custom schedules (based on configuration)

Requirements Before Sending an RSS Email

Before sending an RSS Email Campaign, make sure:

  • An email template has been created

  • The sending domain is verified

  • The RSS feed URL is publicly accessible

If these requirements are not met, the campaign will not send successfully.

Creating an RSS Email Campaign

Step 1: Navigate to Campaign Creation

  1. Go to Marketing (left navigation)

  2. Click Emails (top navigation)

  3. Select Campaigns from the dropdown

  4. Click + New to create a campaign

Step 2: Select an Email Template

  • Choose an existing email template

  • If needed, create one at:
    ​Marketing > Emails > Campaigns

A preview option is available to review the template before proceeding.

Step 3: Design the Email Content

After selecting the template, you will be taken to the Email Builder.

The Email Builder allows you to:

  • Design content in any order

  • Add RSS blocks and other elements

  • Review the full email before sending

When finished, click Send or Schedule to continue.

Pre-Sending Checklist for RSS Campaigns

Before sending or scheduling the RSS Email Campaign, complete the following:

  • Enter the RSS Feed URL

  • Choose campaign frequency:

    • Daily

    • Weekly

    • Monthly

  • Select the send time

  • Set the maximum number of feed items per campaign

    • Limits the amount of content included

    • Helps keep emails concise and relevant

  • Uncheck days of the week when the campaign should not send

  • Add the Sender Email

  • Add the Sender Name (optional)

  • Enter the Email Subject

  • Add Preview Text (optional)

  • Select recipients in the Recipient (To) field:

    • Individual emails

    • Smart lists

Each item must be reviewed to avoid delivery or scheduling errors.

Important Scheduling Notes

  • Always confirm execution date, time, and timezone before scheduling

  • RSS Email Campaign activity is logged automatically

Audit Logs

Campaign details are stored in audit logs for tracking.

To view logs:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Open Audit Logs

  3. Under Module, scroll down

  4. Filter by Email Campaign

Editing, Rescheduling, and Pausing RSS Campaigns

Available campaign actions include:

  • Delete the campaign

  • Reschedule the campaign

  • Pause, edit, and resume the campaign

Rescheduling Rules

  • Campaigns can be rescheduled up to one hour before sending

  • Example:

    • Scheduled for 11:00 AM EST

    • Can be rescheduled until 10:00 AM EST

  • After the cutoff, rescheduling is locked

Are there multiple entries of the RSS Campaign in the list?

Yes.
Each execution of an RSS Email Campaign creates a separate entry, each with its own statistics and performance data.

Can I edit the copy of an ongoing RSS Campaign without affecting statistics?

Yes.
You can edit the copy of an ongoing RSS Campaign by clicking Update Email Content.

After making changes:

  • Click Save Edits before the execution date

  • The system attempts to update the content before the execution queue starts

  • Content updates are not guaranteed once the queue has begun, but the system will attempt to apply changes

How can I reschedule an RSS Email Campaign?

RSS Email Campaigns can be rescheduled for:

  • Simple Schedule

  • Batch Schedule

  • RSS Schedule

Rescheduling rules:

  • Must be done at least one hour (60 minutes) before execution

  • Navigate to Marketing > Email

  • Open the Email Campaign tab

  • Use the action menu to select Reschedule

  • Update the schedule details or delivery model

  • Save the campaign as Rescheduled

What does the feed count limit feature do?

The feed count limit sets the maximum number of feed items processed per campaign.

This ensures:

  • Emails stay concise

  • Only the most relevant content is included

  • RSS processing remains efficient

How can I track execution and performance of RSS Campaigns?

Use the Audit Logs:

  • Navigate to Settings > Audit Logs

  • Filter by Email Campaign

  • View execution status and error details

This provides full visibility into campaign behavior and issues.

How often can RSS Email Campaigns be sent?

RSS Email Campaigns can be scheduled:

  • Daily

  • Weekly

  • Monthly

  • Or based on your selected frequency settings

If I update an old blog post, will it trigger a new RSS Email?

Usually, no.

RSS feeds typically trigger based on the publication date (pubDate) in the XML file.

  • Editing an old post does not trigger a new RSS item

  • A new email is sent only if the feed updates the publication date to a new timestamp
