Updated over 2 months ago

Who This Is For / When to Use

This article is for account owners and users who are syncing Google Calendar with Kyrios and see an error stating they need writer access to sync appointments.

What the Writer Access Error Means

You may see the following message when connecting Google Calendar:

You need to have writer access to sync appointments to the selected Google Calendar. Please check with the Google Calendar owner in case syncing is required.

This error means Kyrios does not have permission to create or edit events on the selected Google Calendar.

Solution 1: Grant Writer Access in Google Calendar

Use this solution if the calendar is owned by another Google account or shared with you.

Step 1: Open Calendar Sharing Settings

  1. Go to calendar.google.com

  2. Select the calendar you are trying to sync

  3. Click the three dots

  4. Select Settings and sharing

Step 2: Add Kyrios Email and Set Permissions

  1. Scroll to Share with specific people

  2. Click Add people

  3. Enter the Google email used for Kyrios

  4. Set permissions to Make changes to events

  5. Click Send

Step 3: Confirm Access Permissions

Ensure Access permissions for events allow changes.

Once saved, the calendar should sync correctly.

Solution 2: Fix Group Calendar Conflicts

Use this solution if you are syncing a group calendar or shared team calendar.

Step 1: Disable Primary Calendar Sync

  1. In Kyrios calendar settings, check Do not sync new events to the primary calendar

  2. Save before continuing

Step 2: Check Conflict Settings

  1. Click Check for conflicts

  2. Select Edit

  3. If the calendar appears under Personal, uncheck it

  4. Save changes

Step 3: Reassign the Primary Calendar

  1. Return to Calendar Configuration

  2. Click Edit on the primary calendar

  3. Select the correct calendar

  4. Save

Solution 3: Resolve Duplicate “Personal” Calendars

Use this solution if you see two calendars with the same name (for example, “Personal”).

Why This Happens

This usually occurs when:

  • Multiple Google accounts are connected

  • A calendar is shared between accounts

  • One calendar has view-only access

Only one version has writer access.

Step 1: Identify the Shared Calendar

  1. Open Google Calendar Settings

  2. Review Share with specific people

  3. Identify which calendar only has See all event details

Step 2: Select the Correct Calendar in Kyrios

  1. Return to Kyrios calendar configuration

  2. Switch to the other calendar with the same name

  3. Save

If the error disappears, the correct calendar is selected.

Solution 4: Simple/Event Calendar Ownership Issues

Use this solution if you own the Google Calendar but still see the error.

Common Causes

  • Multiple Google accounts connected

  • Wrong Google account marked as primary

  • Calendar shared from another account

Fix

  1. Confirm the correct Google account is connected

  2. Ensure the calendar has Make changes to events

  3. Re-select the calendar in Kyrios and save

Important Notes About Google Calendar Sync

  • Writer access is required for two-way sync

  • “See all event details” is not sufficient

  • Primary calendars still check conflicts even if unchecked

  • Existing events are not deleted when changing settings
