Bulk Actions: Add or Remove Tags on Contacts

Use Bulk Actions in Contacts or Smart Lists to add or remove tags from multiple contacts at once.

Who This Is For / When to Use

  • Account users managing large contact lists.

  • Teams applying or cleaning up tags across many contacts.

  • Anyone performing one-time tag updates without workflows.


Select Contacts for a Bulk Action

  1. Go to CRM > Contacts or open a Smart List.

  2. Use the checkboxes to select individual contacts.

  3. To select all contacts on the page, check the box in the table header.

  4. After selecting the page contacts, click the Select all contacts link to include every contact in the list.

Result: The bulk action toolbar becomes active.


Open Bulk Actions Menu

  1. With contacts selected, use the top action bar.

  2. Click Add Tags or Remove Tags directly, or open More for additional actions.


Add Tags to Selected Contacts

  1. Click Add Tags from the bulk action bar.

  2. In the Add Tags modal:

    • Enter an Action Name (required).

    • Select one or more tags from the Tags dropdown.

  3. Click Add Tags to confirm.

Result: The selected tags are applied to all chosen contacts.


Remove Tags from Selected Contacts

  1. Click Remove Tags from the bulk action bar.

  2. In the Remove Tags modal:

    • Enter an Action Name (required).

    • Choose the tag(s) to remove, or enable Remove all tags.

  3. Click Remove Tags to confirm.

Result: The selected tags are removed from all chosen contacts.


Track Bulk Action Progress

  • Bulk actions run in the background.

  • Progress and completion status are available on the Bulk Actions page.

  • Large contact sets may take additional time to finish.


Common Issues and Fixes

  • Action won’t start: Ensure at least one contact is selected and an Action Name is entered.

  • Tags not changing immediately: Refresh the page or check the Bulk Actions progress view.

  • Wrong contacts affected: Verify whether “Select all contacts” was used before confirming.

How do I select all contacts for a bulk action?

Select the checkbox in the table header to select page contacts, then click the Select all contacts link to include every contact in the list.

Can I add multiple tags at once?

Yes. You can select multiple tags in the Tags dropdown before confirming Add Tags.

Can I remove all tags from contacts?

Yes. In the Remove Tags modal, enable Remove all tags to clear every tag from the selected contacts.

What happens if I add a tag that already exists on a contact?

The tag is not duplicated. Existing tags remain unchanged.

Can I undo a bulk add or remove tag action?

No. Bulk actions cannot be undone. You must run another bulk action to correct changes.

Do bulk tag actions work in Smart Lists?

Yes. Bulk add and remove tag actions work the same in Smart Lists and the main Contacts view.

Can bulk actions be scheduled?

No. Bulk actions run immediately after confirmation and cannot be scheduled.
