Video Element in the Email Builder

The Video element lets you add a clickable video preview (thumbnail with play button) to emails that links recipients to an external video URL.

Who This Is For / When to Use

  • Use this when you want to include video content in an email without embedding video files.

  • Designed for users building email templates or campaigns in the Email Builder.

How the Video Element Works

  • The Video element displays a thumbnail image with a play button overlay.

  • Clicking the image opens the video at the provided URL.

  • Videos are not embedded directly in the email due to email provider limitations.

Supported Video Types

You can choose one of the following video sources:

  • YouTube

  • Vimeo

  • Wistia

  • HTML5

The editor fetches the thumbnail automatically based on the selected video type.

Part 1: Add the Video Element

  1. Open the Email Builder.

  2. Drag the Video element into your email layout.

  3. The element settings appear on the left panel, and the video placeholder appears in the editor.

Part 2: Select Video Type

  1. In the left panel, locate Video Type.

  2. Choose one of the supported providers (YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or HTML5).

Part 3: Add the Video URL

  1. Paste the full video link into the Video URL field.

  2. The editor automatically fetches the thumbnail image based on the selected video type.

  3. If the thumbnail does not load, a warning is shown.

Video Thumbnail Options

Default Thumbnail

  • The system attempts to auto-generate a thumbnail from the video URL.

Custom Thumbnail

  • You can manually add a thumbnail image by pasting an image URL into Video Thumbnail URL.

  • Custom values are supported for dynamic content.

Video Size (Width & Height)

  • Use Width and Height fields to define custom dimensions.

  • If left blank, the video automatically fills the available width and scales proportionally.

Play Button Customization

Play Button Size

  • Options: Small, Medium, Large.

Play Button Opacity

  • Adjust transparency using the opacity slider.

Padding Settings

  • Enable Padding to add spacing around the video element.

  • Padding helps align the video within multi-column layouts.

Alignment Behavior

  • Video elements are left-aligned by default.

  • Alignment cannot be changed using an align attribute.

  • To center or reposition the video, place it inside a 2-column or 3-column layout and adjust padding.

Common Issues and Fixes

Thumbnail Does Not Load

  • Ensure the selected video type matches the video URL.

  • Example: A YouTube URL must use the YouTube video type.

  • Add a custom thumbnail URL if auto-fetch fails.

Video Appears Too Large or Small

  • Set explicit width and height values.

  • Use padding or column layouts for better spacing.

FAQ

Can I directly embed videos into my email using the Video element?

No. Due to technical limitations of major email providers, videos cannot be embedded. The Video element links to an external video using a thumbnail preview.

How do I add a video to my email template?

Drag the Video element into the builder, select the video type, paste the video URL, and the thumbnail will display automatically.

What should I do if the thumbnail image fails to fetch?

Verify the video type matches the URL. You can also manually provide a thumbnail image URL.

Can I align the video element in the email template?

The video is left-aligned by default. Alignment must be adjusted using padding inside multi-column layouts.

Can I customize the video thumbnail image?

Yes. You can paste a custom image URL into the Video Thumbnail URL field.

Will the video maintain proportions if width and height are empty?

Yes. The system automatically scales the height based on the image resolution.

No. You can customize the play button size and opacity for any supported video type to match your brand.
