Use the Survey Submitted workflow trigger to automatically enroll a contact into a workflow when they submit a specific survey.

Who This Is For / When to Use

This article is for users who want to:

  • Trigger automations when a survey is completed.

  • Run workflows based on specific surveys.

  • Exclude disqualified survey submissions from automation.

Use this trigger when surveys are part of your lead capture, feedback, or qualification process.

Step 1: Create or Open a Workflow

  1. Navigate to Automations in the left sidebar.

  2. Select Workflows.

  3. Click + Create Workflow or open an existing workflow.

Step 2: Add the Survey Submitted Trigger

  1. In the workflow builder, click Add New Trigger.

  2. Search for and select Survey Submitted from the trigger list.

Step 3: Configure Trigger Settings

Choose a Workflow Trigger

  • Set Choose a Workflow Trigger to Survey Submitted.

  • (Optional) Update Workflow Trigger Name.

    • This name is only for display inside the workflow builder.

    • It does not change trigger behavior.

Step 4: Apply Trigger Filters

Filters control which survey submissions will activate the workflow.

Available Filters

  • Survey is
    Select one or more surveys that should trigger the workflow.

  • Multi-Select
    Allows a single trigger to listen for multiple surveys.

  • Disqualified
    Excludes contacts who were disqualified by survey logic.

Use + Add filters to add or remove conditions.

Step 5: Save the Trigger

  1. Review your trigger settings.

  2. Click Save Trigger.

Step 6: Add Workflow Actions

After the trigger is saved, add one or more workflow actions.

Examples include:

  • Send Email

  • Send SMS

  • Update Contact Field

  • Apply Tags

  • Add to Campaign

Workflows can also be published with no actions if the trigger is only being logged or tested.

Step 7: Save, Test, and Publish the Workflow

  1. Click Save in the top-right corner.

  2. Use Test Workflow to validate behavior.

  3. Toggle Publish to enable the workflow.

Example Use Case

Scenario: Send a thank-you email after a feedback survey is completed.

Trigger

  • Workflow Trigger: Survey Submitted

  • Filters:

    • Survey is: Customer Satisfaction Survey

    • Disqualified: is false

Actions

  1. Send Email: "Thank you for your feedback!"

  2. Update Contact Field: Survey Status = Completed

Common Issues and Fixes

Workflow does not trigger

  • Confirm the workflow is published.

  • Verify the survey selected in filters matches the submitted survey.

  • Ensure the contact was not disqualified if that filter is enabled.

Trigger fires unexpectedly

  • Review multi-select survey filters.

  • Check for duplicate workflows using the same trigger.
