Who This Is For / When to Use

Use this trigger when you want to automate actions based on link clicks, such as unsubscribes, promotional engagement, or intent-based follow-ups.

How the Trigger Link Clicked Trigger Works

A Trigger Link is a tracked hyperlink created in Marketing > Trigger Links.

When a contact clicks that link:

  • The click event is recorded

  • The selected workflow is triggered

  • The contact is added to the workflow

The workflow only runs when the clicked link matches the trigger filter you select.

Step 1: Start a New Workflow or Edit an Existing One

  1. Go to Automation > Workflows.

  2. Click + Create Workflow or open an existing workflow.

Step 2: Add the Trigger Link Clicked Trigger

  1. In the workflow builder, click Add New Trigger.

  2. Search for Trigger Link Clicked.

  3. Select Trigger Link Clicked under the Events trigger category.

Step 3: Configure the Trigger

Workflow Trigger Name (Optional)

  • Edit the Workflow Trigger Name field to rename the trigger for internal clarity.

  • Renaming does not change trigger behavior.

Step 4: Add Trigger Link Filters

Click + Add filters to define which link click triggers the workflow.

Trigger Link Filter

  • Select the Trigger Link you want to track.

  • The workflow will run only when this specific link is clicked.

Example:

  • Trigger Link: Unsubscribe

  • Result: Workflow runs when the unsubscribe link is clicked

Step 5: Save the Trigger

Click Save Trigger.

Step 6: Add Workflow Actions

After saving the trigger, add actions such as:

  • Update contact (apply tags, set DND)

  • Send internal notifications

  • Send confirmation or follow-up emails

Step 7: Publish and Test the Workflow

  1. Click Save in the top-right corner.

  2. Toggle the workflow from Draft to Publish.

  3. Use Test Workflow to confirm the trigger fires correctly.

Creating Trigger Links (Required for Filters)

If no links appear in the trigger filter, you must create them first.

Create a Trigger Link

  1. Go to Marketing > Trigger Links > Links.

  2. Click Add Link.

  3. Enter a Name and Link URL.

  4. Click Save.

Once saved, return to your workflow and select the link in the Trigger Link filter.

Example Use Case: Unsubscribe Automation

Goal: Automatically mark contacts as DND and notify your team when someone unsubscribes.

Trigger Setup:

  • Trigger: Trigger Link Clicked

  • Filter: Trigger Link = Unsubscribe

Actions:

  • Update Contact: Set DND = True

  • Send Internal Notification
