This guide is for users running WhatsApp Message Ads who see errors preventing campaigns from launching, even though WhatsApp appears to be connected to Facebook.
Use this article when:
WhatsApp is selected as a message destination
Facebook rejects or blocks campaign launch
No clear permission or setup error is shown
What Causes WhatsApp Ads to Fail to Launch
WhatsApp Message Ads cannot launch when the connection between WhatsApp Business and the Facebook Page is incomplete or corrupted.
This commonly happens when:
WhatsApp was connected before Page permissions were finalized
The connection was created from Business Manager but not confirmed at the Page level
Facebook cached an outdated or partial connection state
Even if WhatsApp appears connected in Business Manager, ads may still fail until the link is reset.
How to Fix WhatsApp Ads That Won’t Launch
Step 1: Remove the Existing WhatsApp Connection
Removing the existing connection forces Facebook to clear the broken link.
Go to business.facebook.com
Open Business Settings
Select Accounts
Click WhatsApp Accounts
Remove the connected WhatsApp account
This does not delete your WhatsApp number. It only removes the connection.
Step 2: Switch to Your Facebook Page Profile
WhatsApp must be reconnected directly from the Page.
Go to facebook.com
Click your profile photo in the top-right corner
Switch into the Facebook Page you are advertising from
Step 3: Open Facebook Page Settings
Page-level settings control WhatsApp permissions for ads.
While acting as the Page, click Settings
Open the Page settings menu
Step 4: Reconnect WhatsApp from Linked Accounts
This step creates a clean, valid connection for Message Ads.
Scroll to Linked Accounts
Find WhatsApp
Click Connect
Follow the on-screen steps to reconnect your WhatsApp Business account
Make sure you complete all confirmation steps during setup.
Step 5: Allow Time for Facebook to Refresh
Facebook may take a few minutes to fully recognize the new connection.
Wait at least 5–10 minutes
Clear your browser cache if the error persists
Refresh Ads Manager before relaunching the campaign
Once refreshed, WhatsApp Message Ads should launch normally.
Common Issues and Fixes
WhatsApp still doesn’t appear as an option
Ensure the WhatsApp number is:
A WhatsApp Business number (not personal)
Fully verified
Connected to the same Facebook Page used in the ad campaign
Ads Manager still blocks launch after reconnecting
This is usually a cache or permission sync delay.
Wait 10–15 minutes
Refresh Ads Manager
Log out and back into Facebook
Clear browser cache or try an incognito window
I don’t see Linked Accounts in Page Settings
Only Page Admins (Full Access) can manage Linked Accounts.
Ask an Admin to complete the reconnection steps.
