Add the WhatsApp Interactive Messages Action
The WhatsApp Interactive Messages workflow action lets you send an interactive WhatsApp message that asks the contact to share their contact information. To configure the action:
Open the workflow you want to use.
Add the WhatsApp Interactive Messages action.
Set Interactive Message Type to Request Contact Info.
Enter the message the contact should receive in the Body of Your Message.
Click Save action.
The message body should clearly explain why you are asking the contact to share their information.
Test the Workflow
Test the workflow before publishing it for regular use. A contact who is currently reachable through a WhatsApp username is the most useful test case because it allows you to confirm how username-based messaging appears.
To test the workflow:
Save the WhatsApp Interactive Messages action.
Click Test workflow.
Select the contact you want to use for the test.
Click Run test.
Confirm that the interactive WhatsApp message is delivered as expected.
Testing verifies that the workflow action can send the configured Request Contact Info message to the selected contact.
Check the Message in Conversations
After running the workflow, open the test contact's conversation in Conversations.
For a contact being messaged through a WhatsApp username, the message details can display that username in the To field instead of a phone number.
The message details also identify the message as an outbound WhatsApp message sent through workflow automation. A username appearing in the To field confirms that the WhatsApp conversation can be associated with the contact's WhatsApp username when a phone number is not being used for that message.
What the Contact Sees
When the contact taps Share Contact Info in WhatsApp, WhatsApp opens its native Send contact info screen. The contact can review the available contact-card fields and choose which information to share before tapping Send. Depending on the information available in their WhatsApp contact card, the screen can include details such as:
Phone number
WhatsApp username
Email address
Address
Birthday or anniversary information
Other contact-card fields
Only the fields the contact keeps selected are shared with the business.
How the WhatsApp Username Is Shared
The WhatsApp username is provided by the contact through WhatsApp's Send contact info screen. If the contact keeps their username selected and taps Send, that username is included in the contact information they share. Kyrios does not automatically generate, infer, or fill in a WhatsApp username on the contact's behalf.
If the contact deselects the username before sending their contact information, the username is not included in what they share.
How Phone Number Collection Works
The Request Contact Info action asks the contact to voluntarily share contact information through WhatsApp. If the contact includes their phone number when sending the contact card, that phone number is included in the information returned from WhatsApp. If the contact deselects their phone number before tapping Send, the phone number is not included. The workflow action cannot force a contact to share a specific contact-card field.
Common Issues and Fixes
The contact's username appears instead of a phone number
This can occur when the WhatsApp conversation is using the contact's WhatsApp username rather than a phone number. Use Request Contact Info if you need to ask the contact to share additional contact details.
The contact did not share their phone number
The contact controls which fields are sent from WhatsApp's Send contact info screen. If the phone number was deselected before the contact tapped Send, it is not included in the shared information.
The username was not included in the response
The contact must keep the username selected when sending their contact information. If the username is deselected before the contact taps Send, it is not shared.
The interactive message does not appear as expected
Save the workflow action and use Test workflow with a test contact before publishing the workflow. Confirm that Interactive Message Type is set to Request Contact Info and that the message body has been entered.
