Internal Notifications: Notify Followers and Opportunity Owners

The Internal Notification workflow action can now notify contact followers, opportunity followers, and Opportunity Owners from the same action.

Who This Is For / When to Use

Use this article if you build workflows that send internal notifications to team members.

Use follower notifications when people who follow a contact or opportunity need to be notified, even if they are not the assigned user or owner.

This is useful for sales teams, lead generators, closers, mortgage advisors, renewal teams, and coverage teammates who collaborate on the same records.

What Changed

The Internal Notification workflow action now supports follower-based recipients.

You can notify:

  1. Contact followers.

  2. Opportunity followers.

  3. Both contact followers and opportunity followers.

Kyrios also added Opportunity Owner as a recipient option in the existing To User Type picker.

How Notify Followers Works

The Notify followers section appears directly below the To user type field in the Internal Notification action.

The Contact followers and Opportunity followers toggles are additive.

This means followers are notified in addition to the recipient selected in To user type.

When the workflow action runs, Kyrios resolves the selected followers and sends the notification to all eligible recipients.

Duplicate recipients are automatically deduplicated when the action runs.

How to Notify Contact Followers or Opportunity Followers

  1. Open the workflow that contains the Internal Notification action.

  2. Click the Internal Notification action.

  3. Select the primary recipient in To user type.

  4. Turn on Contact followers, Opportunity followers, or both.

  5. Confirm the notification channel and message content.

  6. Click Save action.

The workflow will notify the selected primary recipient and any enabled follower groups when the action runs.

Opportunity Owner Recipient Option

Opportunity Owner is now available in the To user type picker.

Use Opportunity Owner when the notification should go to the user who owns the opportunity in scope.

If Opportunity Owner is selected, Kyrios sends the notification to the opportunity owner when the workflow action runs.

Contact Followers Toggle

Turn on Contact followers when everyone following the contact should receive the internal notification.

Contact followers are resolved when the workflow action runs.

If a contact follower is already included as another recipient, Kyrios sends only one notification to that user.

Opportunity Followers Toggle

Turn on Opportunity followers when everyone following the related opportunity should receive the internal notification.

Opportunity followers are resolved when the workflow action runs.

If no opportunity is in scope, Kyrios skips opportunity followers and still sends the notification to the selected To user type recipient.

If the opportunity was deleted, Kyrios skips opportunity followers and still sends the notification to the selected To user type recipient.

Supported Notification Channels

Follower notifications are available for these Internal Notification channels:

  1. Email.

  2. In-App Notification.

  3. SMS.

  4. WhatsApp.

A follower must have the required destination for the selected channel.

For example, a follower without a phone number is skipped for SMS notifications.

Example: Notify a Real Estate Team

A real estate workflow keeps To user type set to Assigned User.

The workflow also turns on Contact followers.

When a lead replies, Kyrios notifies the assigned user and the contact followers.

This can notify the lead generator, agent, and mortgage advisor who are all following the contact.

Example: Notify Coverage Teammates During PTO

A sales workflow turns on both Contact followers and Opportunity followers.

When a form is submitted or an opportunity stage changes, Kyrios notifies the selected To user type recipient and the enabled follower groups. This helps a covering teammate stay informed when they are following the contact or opportunity.

Notes and Limitations

Existing Internal Notification actions are unchanged.

Contact followers and Opportunity followers are independent toggles.

Both follower toggles can be used together.

Follower recipients are added to the To user type recipient.

Duplicate recipients are automatically deduplicated.

Opportunity followers are skipped if no opportunity is in scope.

Opportunity followers are skipped if the opportunity was deleted.

Followers without the required channel address are skipped for that notification type.

Common Issues and Fixes

A follower did not receive the notification

Confirm the follower has the required destination for the notification channel. For SMS or WhatsApp, the follower must have a valid phone number. For Email, the follower must have a valid email address.

Opportunity followers were not notified

Confirm the workflow action has an opportunity in scope.

If no opportunity is in scope, Kyrios skips opportunity followers and still sends the notification to the selected To user type recipient.

A user was both selected in To user type and included as a follower

Kyrios deduplicates recipients automatically.

If the same user appears more than once, Kyrios sends only one notification to that user.

Existing notifications did not change automatically

Existing Internal Notification actions are unchanged.

To notify followers, open the action and turn on Contact followers, Opportunity followers, or both.
