Updated over 2 months ago

Who This Is For / When to Use

  • Accounts that have completed DNS review during a domain transfer.

  • Users currently on Step 4: Finalize Transfer.

  • Anyone prompted to enter an authorization (EPP) code to proceed.

What “Finalize Transfer” Means

The Finalize Transfer step submits the official transfer request to your current registrar.

At this stage, Kyrios verifies that:

  • The domain is unlocked.

  • DNSSEC and Whois Privacy are disabled.

  • A valid authorization (EPP) code is provided.

  • The transfer fee is successfully processed.

Once submitted, the transfer moves to the Approval stage.

Before You Finalize the Transfer

Confirm the following at your current registrar:

  • DNSSEC is disabled.

  • Whois Privacy is turned off.

  • The domain is unlocked.

  • You have a valid authorization (EPP) code.

If any of these are incomplete, the transfer will fail.

Step-by-Step: Finalize a Domain Transfer

Step 1: Log In to Your Current Registrar

Sign in to the account where the domain is currently registered. If the domain uses a separate DNS provider, log in there as well.

Step 2: Disable DNSSEC and Whois Privacy

  1. Open the domain’s security or DNS settings.

  2. Disable DNSSEC.

  3. Turn off Whois Privacy (if enabled).

  4. Save changes.

Note: DNSSEC changes may take 15–30 minutes to update.

Step 3: Unlock the Domain and Get the Authorization Code

  1. Open domain management settings.

  2. Locate Domain Lock or Registrar Lock.

  3. Turn the lock off.

  4. Request the authorization (EPP) code.

  5. Copy the code from the screen or email.

Authorization codes may expire, so request one close to submission.

Step 4: Submit the Transfer in Kyrios

  1. Paste the authorization code into the Finalize Transfer screen.

  2. Review the domain and registrar details.

  3. Confirm the transfer fee (includes 1 additional year).

  4. Click Confirm and Finalize Transfer.

What Happens After Submission

After submission:

  • The transfer request is sent to the current registrar.

  • Status changes to Approval Pending.

  • You must approve the transfer at the current registrar to continue.

Transfers typically complete within 1–5 days after approval.

  • Wait 15–30 minutes, then refresh and retry.

Transfer does not move to approval

  • Whois Privacy may still be enabled.

  • Registrar lock may not be fully removed.

FAQ

How long does it take after I finalize the transfer?

Most transfers complete within 1–5 days, depending on the registrar and approval timing.

I don’t see an option to unlock my domain. What should I do?

Some registrars place this under Security or Transfer Settings. Contact registrar support if needed.

What happens if I enter the wrong authorization code?

The transfer will fail. Verify the domain is unlocked and request a new code.

Will finalizing the transfer cause downtime?

No, as long as DNS records were reviewed and confirmed earlier in the process.

Can Whois Privacy remain enabled?

No. Whois Privacy must be disabled to retrieve the authorization code and complete the transfer.

I disabled DNSSEC but Kyrios still shows it as active. Why?

DNSSEC changes can take time to update globally. Wait 15–30 minutes and try again.
