Domain Transfer-In: Check Eligibility

The Eligibility Check confirms whether a domain meets all technical and registry requirements before it can be transferred into Kyrios.

Updated over 2 months ago

Who This Is For / When to Use

  • Accounts transferring a domain from an external registrar.

  • Users on Step 2: Eligibility Check in the transfer workflow.

  • Anyone verifying transfer fees, expiration dates, and eligibility status.

What the Eligibility Check Does

The Eligibility Check validates whether a domain can be transferred at this time.

If eligible, Kyrios displays:

  • Current registrar

  • Current expiration date

  • New expiration date (includes a 1-year extension)

  • Transfer fee for the additional year

If ineligible, the system explains the reason and prevents you from continuing.

Why Transfer Fees May Be Lower in Kyrios

Kyrios negotiates domain pricing at scale and passes those savings on to accounts.

As a result:

  • Transfer and renewal rates are often more affordable than standard retail pricing.

  • Pricing shown during the eligibility check is the actual renewal cost after transfer.

  • No remaining subscription time is lost during the move.

This pricing is confirmed before you proceed.

How the Eligibility Check Works

Once you enter a domain, Kyrios automatically evaluates registry and registrar rules, including:

  • Domain age and transfer history

  • Registry lock and EPP status

  • Supported top-level domain (TLD)

  • Maximum registration term limits

  • Registrar compatibility

When eligible, the Continue button becomes available.

Information Shown When a Domain Is Eligible

When eligibility is confirmed, you will see:

  • Domain name

  • Current registrar

  • Current expiration date

  • New expiration date (current date + 1 year)

  • Transfer fee for the added year

Important:

  • No existing time is removed from your domain.

  • The added year stacks on top of your current expiration.

Common Reasons a Domain Is Ineligible

A domain may be blocked from transfer if any of the following apply:

  • Domain was registered or transferred within the last 60 days

  • Domain is already managed internally

  • Unsupported TLD

  • Registrar is not supported

  • Registry status includes:

    • pendingDelete

    • redemptionPeriod

    • serverHold

  • Transfer would exceed maximum allowed registration length

  • Active registry or legal restrictions

When ineligible, Kyrios disables the Continue button and shows the reason.

What to Do If a Domain Is Ineligible

Depending on the reason, you may need to:

  • Wait until the 60-day lock expires

  • Unlock the domain at the current registrar

  • Remove registry holds

  • Use a different domain

  • Complete the transfer at a later date

Step-by-Step: Run an Eligibility Check

  2. Go to Settings > Domains.

  3. Select Transfer Domain to Us.

FAQ

How long does a domain transfer take after eligibility is confirmed?

Most transfers complete within 5–7 days, depending on registrar approval timing.

Can I transfer a domain purchased recently?

No. Domains registered or transferred within the last 60 days are ineligible due to registry rules.

Does transferring a domain extend its expiration date?

Yes. Transfers typically add one full year to the existing expiration date.

Will transferring my domain affect my website or email?

No, as long as DNS records are reviewed and maintained correctly in the next step.

What happens if my domain is not eligible?

The system explains why and prevents continuation. You can retry once the restriction is resolved.

Will my name servers change automatically after transfer?

Kyrios attempts to keep existing name servers during the transfer to prevent downtime. After completion, you may optionally switch to Kyrios name servers for centralized DNS management.
