Use Assignments when you need members to submit written responses or files that require manual review instead of automatic grading.

What Is a Membership Assignment

A Membership Assignment is an assessment type designed for offline or subjective evaluation.

Assignments are commonly used for:

  • Homework submissions

  • Written or paragraph-based responses

  • File-based work requiring instructor review

Members can:

  • Write answers directly in a text field

  • Upload one or more files for review

Key Assignment Capabilities

  • Manual review and instructor feedback

  • Text-based answer submission

  • File uploads for completed work

  • Pass, Fail, or In Review status indicators

  • Assignment completion tracking within the course

Step 1: Add an Assignment to a Course

  1. Open the course.

  2. Locate the module where the assignment should appear.

  3. Click + Add Content.

  4. Select Add Assignment.

Step 2: Configure Assignment Details

Complete the required assignment fields:

  • Assignment Name: Internal and member-facing title

  • Instructions: Guidance members see before starting

  • Assignment Material: Optional templates or reference files

  • Assignment Thumbnail: Visual identifier (optional)

Supported upload formats for assignment materials include:

  • .jpeg

  • .jpg

  • .pdf

  • .xls

Step 3: Preview the Assignment

Use Preview to see the assignment exactly as a member would.

Preview mode allows you to:

  • View instructions

  • Enter sample answers

  • Upload test files

Step 4: Publish the Assignment

Assignments are hidden from members until published.

  1. Open the assignment.

  2. Select the Draft status dropdown.

  3. Change the status to Published.

Once published, the assignment becomes visible to enrolled members.

Member Assignment Experience

When a member opens an assignment, they can:

  • Read the assignment instructions

  • Enter a written response

  • Upload required files

  • Submit the assignment for review

Assignment Review and Completion

After submission:

  • The assignment status updates based on instructor review

  • Feedback is shown directly on the assignment page

  • Members can see confirmation once reviewed

Assignment Status Options

Assignments support the following visibility states:

  • Draft: Visible only to admins

  • Published: Visible to members

  • Locked: Requires prerequisite completion

Mobile and Desktop Access

Assignments are fully accessible on:

  • Desktop browsers

  • Mobile browsers

  • Progressive Web App (PWA)

The interface is optimized for submission, navigation, and feedback review on all supported devices.

Common Issues and Fixes

Members cannot see the assignment

Cause
The assignment is still in Draft or Locked status.

Fix
Set the assignment status to Published and confirm prerequisites.

Members cannot submit files

Cause
Unsupported file format.

Fix
Ensure uploaded files use supported formats (.jpeg, .jpg, .pdf, .xls).
