Statuses in Membership Courses

Membership course statuses control when and how course content becomes visible to members, using Published, Draft, Locked, and Drip rules.

Updated over 3 months ago

Who This Is For / When to Use

Use course statuses when building, sequencing, or restricting access to membership course content for learners.

Where Course Statuses Are Managed

Course statuses are managed from the Products > Courses area.

Navigation path:
Left sidebar → MembershipsCoursesProducts

Each course section, module, or lesson includes a status dropdown.

Available Course Statuses

Published

What it does
Published content is immediately visible and accessible to all enrolled members.

When to use
Use Published when content is finalized and ready for member access.

Draft

What it does
Draft content is hidden from members and visible only to admins.

When to use
Use Draft while building or editing content that should not yet be live.

Important behavior
Newly created sections default to Draft status.

Locked

What it does
Locked content requires members to complete prerequisite content before access is granted.

How locking works
You can require completion of:

  1. A specific lesson

  2. A module

  3. Both a lesson and a module

Important limitation
Locking a section locks all content within that section.

Do not lock a section if you only intend to restrict a single lesson inside it.

Drip

What it does
Drip releases content automatically after a defined time delay or on a specific calendar date.

Drip options

  • Release after X days from the member’s first login

  • Release on a specific calendar date

How drip timing works
Drip timing is calculated individually per member based on their first login date unless a fixed date is selected.

Example Drip Scenario

If:

  • Section 2 is set to drip after 7 days

  • Section 3 is set to drip after 14 days

Then:

  • Section 2 unlocks 7 days after the member’s first login

  • Section 3 unlocks 14 days after the member’s first login

Statuses on Lessons

Lesson-level statuses work the same as section statuses, with one exception.

Lesson status differences

  • Drip is not available at the lesson level

  • Lessons include a Delete option (not a status)

Statuses on Nested Sections

Nested sections use the same status options as top-level sections:

  • Published

  • Draft

  • Locked

Behavior and restrictions remain identical.

Common Issues and Fixes

Members cannot see content

Cause
The content is set to Draft, Locked, or Drip.

Fix
Check the status dropdown and confirm eligibility requirements are met.

Drip content not unlocking

Cause
Drip timing is based on the member’s first login or a future calendar date.

Fix
Verify the member’s initial login date and confirm drip settings.
