Managing Comments in Your Membership Section

Manage lesson-level and course-level comments in your membership products by controlling visibility, moderation, privacy, and deleted comment recovery.

Who This Is For / When to Use

  • Course creators and instructors who want structured learner feedback.

  • Accounts that need moderation controls for lessons or discussions.

  • Teams managing spam, off-topic comments, or instructor-only feedback.

Comment States Explained

Each lesson or module comment area can be set to one of the following states:

Enabled

  • Comments are visible to members.

  • Members can read existing comments and add new ones.

Hidden

  • Comments are not visible on the lesson.

  • Existing comments are not shown to members.

Locked

  • Existing comments remain visible.

  • Members cannot add new comments.

Use these states to control engagement at the lesson or module level.

Enable, Hide, or Lock Comments in a Course

Step 1: Open a Course

  1. Go to Memberships → Courses.

  2. Open an existing course.

Step 2: Open the Comments Tab

  1. In the course sidebar, click Comments.

Step 3: Manage Comment State by Module or Lesson

  1. Locate the module or lesson.

  2. Use the dropdown on the right to select:

    • Enabled

    • Hidden

    • Locked

This setting applies immediately.

Manage Individual Comments (Moderation)

Step 1: Open the Comments Manager

  1. Go to Memberships → Courses.

  2. Click Manage Comments in the top-right.

Step 2: Review and Moderate Comments

From the Comments Manager, you can:

  • Reply to comments.

  • Edit comments.

  • Delete comments.

  • Change visibility.

Step 3: Change Comment Visibility

  1. On a specific comment, open the visibility dropdown.

  2. Choose:

    • Public – Visible to instructors and all enrolled members.

    • Instructor Only – Visible only to the instructor and the original commenter.

Step 4: Delete a Comment

  1. Select Delete on the comment.

  2. The comment moves to the Deleted tab.

Step 5: Restore a Deleted Comment

  1. In Manage Comments, open the Deleted tab.

  2. Click Restore on the comment.

Control New Comment Privacy (Default Setting)

Set Default Comment Privacy

  1. Open the course.

  2. Go to Comments.

  3. Set New Comment Privacy:

    • Instructor Only

    • Public

    • Both (User Selection)

This controls what learners can choose when posting new comments.

Commenting Experience for Members

Members can:

  • Post text comments.

  • Add images or GIFs directly in lesson comments.

  • Choose visibility (if allowed by course settings).

Supported media includes standard image formats and GIFs, with size limits enforced to maintain performance.

Preview Comment Behavior

To confirm settings:

  1. Open the course.

  2. Click Preview to view the lesson as a member.

Common Issues and Fixes

Members Cannot Comment

  • Check the lesson comment state is Enabled.

  • Confirm comments are not Locked or Hidden.

Comments Are Visible When They Shouldn’t Be

  • Verify the lesson-level setting.

  • Check New Comment Privacy configuration.

Spam or Irrelevant Comments

  • Delete the comment.

  • Use Instructor Only visibility.

  • Lock comments on affected lessons.

Who can manage or delete comments?

Can comments be recovered after deletion?
Yes. Deleted comments can be restored from the Deleted tab.

Can members upload media in comments?
