Before You Start
Confirm that your setup satisfies the platform requirements before generating an agent. Requirements include:
An active account with enabled permissions for Ask AI and Voice AI.
A defined business objective, such as qualifying incoming leads or routing department inquiries.
A prepared list of data points the voice agent must collect from callers.
Verified destination phone numbers or workflow actions for call transfers.
Step 1: Open Ask AI
Open the conversational assistant interface from the main account navigation menu.
Log in to your platform dashboard.
Confirm you are working within your target account.
Click Ask AI in the left navigation sidebar.
Step 2: Submit the Voice AI Request
Enter an operational prompt into the assistant interface to define your agent logic.
State the role of the agent, the greeting message, the specific routing branches, and the contact data points the agent must collect.
Click the Ask anything... input field at the bottom of the assistant screen.
Type your agent requirements into the field. For example, enter: Build a flow-based Voice AI agent for my business that greets callers, identifies whether they need sales or support, collects their contact details, and directs them to the appropriate conversation path.
Press Enter or click the send button.
Step 3: Complete Guided Requirement Collection
Provide operational details if Ask AI asks follow-up clarifying questions. The assistant uses your responses to determine node triggers, routing conditions, and fallback behaviors.
Read the follow-up questions displayed in the Ask AI chat thread.
Specify the exact information fields the agent must collect, such as name, email address, or phone number.
State the required routing destination for each conversation path, such as team assignments or external phone transfers.
Submit your answers until the assistant confirms it has enough detail to construct the plan.
Step 4: Review and Approve the Visual Build Plan
Inspect the proposed conversation layout before generating the visual nodes. The build plan outlines the operational sequence of the call, intent branches, data capture steps, and ending actions.
Review the proposed build plan outline displayed in the chat interface.
Verify that the agent sequence contains the correct greeting, intent paths, and data capture steps.
Type any required modifications directly into the prompt box if branches or actions are missing.
Select the confirmation button to approve the plan and generate the flow.
Step 5: Edit the Generated Voice Flow
Review and modify nodes, conversation paths, and conditions directly on the visual flow canvas. You can modify prompts, conditional branches, and integration hooks directly on the canvas layout.
Examine the generated nodes on the visual canvas grid.
Click any node to open its configuration panel and modify its instructions or parameters.
Adjust routing connection lines between conversation stages as needed.
Click Save to preserve your canvas adjustments.
Save all canvas adjustments before requesting a rebuild. Any unsaved edits made on the canvas are overwritten when the assistant generates a new version of the flow.
Step 6: Test or Rebuild the Flow
Test conversational pathways using simulated caller responses before setting the agent live. Testing ensures intent recognition, branching conditions, and variable captures work as intended.
Click Test on the canvas navigation toolbar.
Enter or speak sample caller statements to test intent recognition and path routing.
Verify that the agent captures data points accurately and transfers to the correct branches.
If the overall flow structure requires broad structural changes, type updated instructions into the Ask AI chat panel and click Rebuild.
Click Save and run a new test conversation.
Step 7: Open the Full Voice Flow Builder
Access the primary builder interface for advanced telephony configurations and external webhook setups. The full builder provides access to advanced routing rules, system variables, and live call tests.
Click the button to open your generated flow in the full Voice Flow Builder.
Configure external webhooks, custom field mappings, and integration credentials.
Validate call behavior using the browser-based Web Call test or the live Phone Call test tool.
Assign a dedicated tracking number to the flow inside your phone settings to handle live calls.
Common Issues and Fixes
Flow-Based Option Missing in Ask AI
Root Cause: The feature rollout has not reached the active account, or the account lacks Voice AI permissions.
Fix: Navigate to settings, verify that Voice AI is activated on your account, and check back as access is released.
Canvas Edits Overwritten After a Rebuild
Root Cause: A flow rebuild request was sent before saving the current visual canvas state.
Fix: Always click Save in the visual editor before asking the assistant to revise the flow structure.
FAQ
Why is the option to create flow-based Voice AI agents missing in Ask AI?
This capability is deployed gradually across eligible accounts. Verify that your account has active access to both Ask AI and Voice AI.
Can I continue creating prompt-based Voice AI agents?
Yes. Prompt-based agent configuration remains available as an independent creation method.
Do I need prior experience with Voice AI nodes before using Ask AI?
No. Ask AI generates the initial node graph and conversational paths automatically from your natural-language request.
What should I do if Ask AI generates a flow that does not match my requirements?
Save your current canvas progress, describe the specific path adjustments in the Ask AI chat field, and request a flow rebuild.
Can I test the flow without assigning a live phone number?
Yes. The Voice Flow Builder includes a browser-based Web Call testing option to validate conversational branching without assigning a phone number.
Does Ask AI automatically configure every external integration in the flow?
No. While the assistant places integration and action nodes, API credentials, third-party authentication, and custom webhook payloads must be verified inside the full Voice Flow Builder.
Can I edit the generated flow after opening it in the full Voice Flow Builder?
Yes. The full Voice Flow Builder allows you to edit nodes, routing conditions, integrations, and telephony settings.
