Advanced Builder: Build Faster with Auto-Connecting Steps

The Advanced Builder now allows you to drag and drop triggers and actions directly onto the workflow canvas, automatically connecting them in the correct position.

Updated over a month ago

Who This Is For

  • Users building or editing workflows in Advanced Builder

  • Teams creating multi-step automations

  • Anyone who wants to build workflows visually before configuring each step

Use this feature when adding new triggers or actions to an existing workflow or building a workflow from scratch.

Whatโ€™s New

You can now:

  • Drag triggers and actions directly from the sidebar

  • Drop them at the end of a branch to extend it

  • Drop them between two existing steps to insert them

  • Automatically connect steps without manual linking

Steps connect instantly and are ready for configuration.

How Auto-Connecting Works

From the Triggers/Actions sidebar:

  1. Select a trigger or action.

  2. Drag it onto the workflow canvas.

  3. Drop it in one of two locations:

    • At the end of a branch to extend the workflow

    • Between two existing steps to insert it in the middle

The builder automatically connects the step in the correct position.

You do not need to manually reconnect nodes after dropping.

How to Use Auto-Connecting in Advanced Builder

Step 1: Open the Workflow

  1. Go to Automations โ†’ Workflows.

  2. Open an existing workflow or create a new one.

  3. Make sure you are in Advanced Builder mode.

Step 2: Add a Trigger or Action

  1. Open the Triggers/Actions sidebar.

  2. Drag the desired trigger or action onto the canvas.

  3. Drop it:

    • On the last node to extend a branch

    • Between two connected nodes to insert it

The step will auto-connect in the correct sequence.

Step 3: Configure the Step

After dropping:

  1. Click the newly added step.

  2. Complete all required configuration fields.

  3. Click Save.

Supported Drop Locations

You can drop actions:

  • At the end of any branch

  • Between two connected nodes in a branch

You cannot leave a step unconfigured and expect it to run.

Workflow Execution Rules

  • Dropped actions must be fully configured before they can execute.

  • If a workflow contains an incomplete action, that step will not run.

  • Always save your workflow after adding or editing steps.

  • Use Test Workflow before publishing.

Common Issues and Fixes

Step does not run after adding it

Cause: The action was not fully configured.
โ€‹Fix: Open the step, complete all required fields, and save.

Step not connecting correctly

Cause: The step was not dropped directly onto a valid connection point.
โ€‹Fix: Drag again and drop:

  • On the end node to extend

  • Directly between two connected nodes to insert
