Creating Agent Rules in AI Ads Manager

Agent Rules allow you to automatically increase budget, decrease budget, or pause campaigns based on performance triggers you define.

Updated over 2 months ago

Who This Is For

Use Agent Rules if you:

  • Want automated performance control

  • Want to scale winning campaigns automatically

  • Want to reduce spend on underperformers

  • Want campaigns paused based on defined thresholds

  • Manage multiple campaigns and need structured automation

What Agent Rules Do

Agent Rules:

  • Monitor performance metrics

  • Evaluate triggers on a recurring schedule

  • Execute predefined actions

  • Operate at campaign or group scope

Rules are managed inside the Optimization & Insights tab. Rules are separate from Budget Optimizer.

Accessing Agent Rules

To create or manage rules:

  1. Go to AI Ads Manager

  2. Click Advertise

  3. Open an active campaign

  4. Navigate to Optimization & Insights

  5. Click the Rules tab

All rule creation and management occurs here.

Rule Components

Every rule contains:

1. Trigger Condition

Defines when the rule activates.

Examples:

  • Cost per lead above threshold

  • Conversion rate below target

  • Spend exceeds defined amount

  • Leads exceed target number

2. Evaluation Window

Defines the time period used for performance review.

Rules evaluate on a recurring schedule.

3. Action

Defines what happens when the condition is met.

Available actions include:

  • Increase budget

  • Decrease budget

  • Pause campaign

Creating a New Rule

To create a rule:

  1. Open Optimization & Insights

  2. Click Rules

  3. Click Create Rule

  4. Select the performance metric

  5. Set the trigger threshold

  6. Define evaluation timeframe

  7. Select the action:

    • Increase spend

    • Decrease spend

    • Pause campaign

  8. Confirm and save

The rule is now active.

Increasing Budget Automatically

Use this when:

  • Cost per lead is below target

  • Conversion rate exceeds target

  • Performance is stable and profitable

Example structure: If cost per lead is below $20 over 3 days β†’ increase budget by 15%.

This allows structured scaling without manual intervention.

Decreasing Budget Automatically

Use this when:

  • Cost per acquisition rises above threshold

  • Performance drops below acceptable levels

Example structure: If cost per lead exceeds $45 over 2 days β†’ decrease budget by 20%.

This reduces wasted spend.

Pausing Campaigns Automatically

Use this when:

  • Spend exceeds maximum limit

  • Performance drops significantly

  • Lead volume exceeds capacity

Example structure: If no conversions after $300 spend β†’ pause campaign.

Pausing prevents continued loss.

Applying Rules at Different Levels

Rules can apply to:

  • A specific campaign

  • A campaign group

  • Cross-platform grouped campaigns

Ensure scope is correctly selected before saving.

How Rules Differ from Budget Optimizer

Agent Rules:

  • Trigger-based

  • Conditional

  • Action-specific

  • User-defined logic

Budget Optimizer:

  • AI-driven

  • Continuously reallocates spend

  • Based on comparative performance across campaigns

Both systems can operate simultaneously.

Rule Evaluation Timing

Rules evaluate on a recurring schedule.

Allow performance data to accumulate before expecting actions.

Avoid using short evaluation windows that lack sufficient data.

Best Practices

  • Use one rule per defined objective

  • Avoid stacking conflicting rules

  • Test rules on smaller budgets first

  • Monitor results during first evaluation cycle

Common Issues and Fixes

Rule Did Not Trigger

Confirm:

  • The trigger threshold was reached

  • The evaluation window has completed

  • Optimization is enabled

Budget Changed Unexpectedly

Review:

  • Active rules

  • Budget Optimizer status

  • Campaign group assignments

Campaign Paused Automatically

Check:

  • Active pause rules

  • Spend threshold rules

Rules run after evaluation criteria are met during scheduled review cycles.

Can I edit or disable a rule?
