Assign scores and categories to quiz answers to calculate overall and category-level results and display personalized outcome messages.

What Scoring and Categories Do in Quizzes

Quiz scoring lets you:

  • Calculate an Overall Score

  • Calculate Category Scores in parallel

  • Display tiered result messages (Low, Medium, High)

  • Use scores later for segmentation and automation

Scores are assigned at the answer option level.


Step 1: Create or Open a Quiz

  1. Navigate to Sites > Quizzes.

  2. Click Add Quiz to create a new quiz, or open an existing quiz from the list.


Step 2: Add a Question to the Quiz

  1. Click the + icon to open the Quiz Element panel.

  2. Drag a question type into the quiz:

    • Single Choice

    • Multiple Choice

    • Yes / No

    • Dropdown


Step 3: Enter the Question Text and Options

  1. Click the question block.

  2. Enter the question text.

  3. Add answer options as needed.


Step 4: Assign Scores to Answer Options

Each answer option can carry a numeric score.

  1. Select an answer option.

  2. Enter a value in the Score field.

  3. Repeat for each option.

Example:

  • Correct answer: 10

  • Incorrect answer: 0


Step 5: Assign Categories to Answers

Categories determine how scores are grouped.

Category Options

  • Overall Only: Counts toward total score only

  • Specific Category: Counts toward both the category score and overall score

  1. Open the Category dropdown for an answer.

  2. Select Overall Only or an existing category.

  3. Use Add / Manage to create new categories.


How Quiz Scoring Is Calculated

Maximum Score

  • Single Choice / Dropdown: Max score equals the highest single option

  • Multiple Choice / Multi Dropdown: Max score equals the sum of all options

Final Score Formula

Final Score = (Selected Score / Maximum Score) × 100

This calculation is applied to:

  • Overall Score

  • Each individual category


Step 6: Configure Score Tiers on the Result Page

Score tiers control labels and colors shown to users.

  1. Scroll to Result Template.

  2. Click Edit Template.

  3. Open Score Tiers.

  4. Define ranges (e.g. Low, Medium, High).

Example:

  • Low: 0–39%

  • Medium: 40–79%

  • High: 80–100%


Step 7: Preview and Save the Quiz

  1. Click Preview to test scoring behavior.

  2. Verify:

    • Scores calculate correctly

    • Categories update as expected

    • Result tiers trigger properly

  3. Click Save.


Common Issues and Fixes

Scores do not add up correctly

  • Confirm each answer has a score

  • Check that categories are assigned intentionally

Category scores appear empty

  • Ensure answers are not set to Overall Only

  • Submit a test quiz to initialize calculations

Result tier does not display

  • Verify score ranges do not overlap

  • Ensure all percentages are covered (0–100)


FAQ

What does "Overall Only" mean?

Answers set to Overall Only affect the total score but do not belong to any category.

Can an answer belong to multiple categories?

Yes. The same score value is applied to every category the answer is assigned to.

Can different point values be used per category?

No. Each answer has a single score value, which is reused across categories.

Can I customize messages for different score ranges?

Yes. Result messages can be customized per score tier on the result page.

How do I test quiz scoring before publishing?

Use the Preview option to submit test responses and confirm results.
