Linked Text and Date Fields
Text fields and date fields can now be linked to custom values.
Supported custom values include contact custom values and document variables.
Automatic Record Updates
When a document is signed, linked fields automatically update the selected record.
CSV Export of Filled Fields
Download a CSV of all completed fields from the dashboard for reporting or record keeping.
Where This Feature Is Available
This feature is available in the Documents and Contracts editor.
You must be editing a document to link fields.
Add and Select a Field to Link
Open Documents and Contracts.
Create a new document or open an existing one.
Drag a Text or Date field onto the document.
Click the field to open field actions.
Select the Link icon.
Link a Field to a Custom Value
After clicking the link icon, the Add linked fields modal opens.
Choose the object type:
Contact Custom Value, or
Document Variable
Enter or select the custom value variable.
Click Link and Save.
Manage Linked Fields From Properties Panel
Once a field is linked, you can manage it from the Properties panel.
You can:
View the linked custom value variable.
Add additional custom value links.
Mark the field as Required.
Update the placeholder text.
Automatic Updates After Signing
When the recipient signs the document:
The entered values are written back automatically.
Updates apply to the selected contact record or document record.
No manual data entry is required after signing.
This applies to both text and date fields.
Download Filled Fields as CSV
To export document data:
Go to the Documents dashboard.
Select the document.
Download the CSV of filled fields.
The CSV includes all linked field values completed by recipients.
Common Issues and Fixes
Link option is not visible
Only text and date fields support custom value linking.
Data did not update after signing
Confirm the field was linked before sending the document.
Verify the correct object type (contact vs document variable).
Custom value not available
Ensure the custom value exists before linking.
Check spelling of the variable name.

Can a single field be linked to multiple custom values?
Yes. You can add more than one custom value to a field if needed.

No. Recipients only see the field itself, not the linked custom value.
