Processing and Miscellaneous Charges for Customer Payments

Processing Charges allow you to automatically add a percentage-based fee to customer payments across supported checkout types to offset payment processing or convenience costs.

Who This Is For / When to Use

Use Processing Charges if you want to:

  • Pass payment processing or convenience fees to customers

  • Apply a consistent percentage-based charge across multiple payment sources

  • Show fees transparently as a separate line item at checkout

What Are Processing (Miscellaneous) Charges

Processing Charges are optional percentage-based fees added to customer payments.

They are:

  • Calculated on the final payable amount

  • Displayed as a separate line item

  • Included in the total charged to the customer

Calculation Formula (Subtotal – Discounts + Taxes) × Processing Charge %

Supported Payment Providers

Processing Charges work differently based on payment provider:

  • Invoices & Estimates: Supported for all payment providers

  • Other checkouts (Funnels, Payment Links, Forms, Stores, etc.):

    • Supported for card-based providers

    • Not supported for PayPal and Custom Payment Providers

How to Enable Processing Charges

Step 1: Open Processing Charge Settings

  1. Go to Payments → Settings

  2. Select Miscellaneous Charges

  3. Click Processing Charges

Step 2: Configure the Processing Charge

  1. Enable Passing processing charges to customers

  2. Enter a Processing charge name (example: Convenience Fee)

  3. Enter the Percentage charge

The percentage is applied to the total amount due inclusive of tax.

Step 3: Select Where the Charge Applies

Choose one or more checkout sources:

  • Invoices & Estimates

  • Funnels

  • Payment Links

  • Forms

  • Surveys

  • Services

  • E‑commerce Stores

Click Save to apply the configuration.

How Processing Charges Appear to Customers

Invoices and Estimates

  • The charge appears after the customer clicks Pay

  • Shown as a separate line item

Funnels, Payment Links, and Subscriptions

  • The charge is included in the checkout total

  • Displayed clearly before payment is completed

Reporting and CSV Exports

Processing Charges are included in:

  • Transactions CSV

  • Orders CSV

Each export includes:

  • Processing charge label

  • Processing charge amount

  • Correct allocation without negative values

This enables accurate reconciliation and reporting.

Legal and Compliance Notice

It is your responsibility to comply with local and regional laws related to surcharging or convenience fees. Some jurisdictions may prohibit passing processing fees to customers.

Common Issues and Fixes

Processing charge does not appear at checkout

  • Confirm the checkout type is selected under Enable for

  • Verify the payment provider supports processing charges

  • For PayPal or Custom providers, use Invoices or Estimates only

Charge not applied to older invoices

  • Processing Charges apply only to invoices created or edited after the feature is enabled

FAQ

Can I set different processing charges for different payment sources?

No. A single processing charge percentage applies to all selected sources.

Does disabling the processing charge affect past payments?

No. Existing invoices, orders, or transactions remain unchanged.

How is the processing charge calculated?

It is calculated using: (Subtotal – Discounts + Taxes) × Processing Charge %

Can customers see the processing charge?

Yes. It appears as a separate line item during checkout and on receipts.

Is the processing charge included in CSV exports?

Yes. Transaction and order exports include the processing charge amount and label.

Are processing charges supported for PayPal?

Only for Invoices and Estimates. Other PayPal checkouts do not support processing charges.
