Who This Is For / When to Use

Use Add Contact Info when you want an AI Agent to:

  • Collect missing contact details during conversations

  • Update standard contact fields automatically

  • Prepare contacts for workflows, appointments, or follow-ups

What Is Add Contact Info

Add Contact Info is an AI action configured inside an AI Agent’s Bot Goals.

It allows the AI Agent to:

  • Ask the contact for specific information

  • Save that information directly to the contact record

  • Update only empty fields to protect existing data

Where to Find Add Contact Info

  1. Go to AI Agents → Conversation AI.

  2. Open the AI Agent you want to configure.

  3. Select the Bot Goals tab.

  4. Scroll to Setup your Actions and click Add Contact Info.

Bot Requirements Before Setup

Before adding this action:

  • The AI Agent must have a Bot Name

  • The bot should be set to Suggestive or Auto Pilot mode

  • At least one communication channel must be selected

Configuring the Add Contact Info Action

When the Add Contact Info panel opens, configure each field carefully.

Required Fields

  • Action Name
    A label for internal identification (for example: Contact Date of Birth).

  • Which contact field to be updated
    Select the standard contact field to update, such as:

    • Name

    • Email

    • Phone number

    • Business name

    • Date of birth

  • What to update in the field
    Describe what the AI should find and save.
    Example:
    This is the date of birth of the contact.

Click Save when finished.

Adding Prompts So the AI Can Collect Data

The AI Agent will only update contact fields if the prompt explicitly asks for the information.

You must include instructions inside the bot’s prompt.

Where to Add Instructions

Add questions inside Additional Information in the bot prompt.

Examples:

  • “Ask the customer for their date of birth.”

  • “Collect the customer’s business name.”

Without these instructions, the action will not run.

Supported Contact Fields

Add Contact Info supports standard contact fields only, including:

  • Name

  • Email

  • Phone number

  • Business name

  • Date of birth

Custom contact fields are not supported.

Important Behavior Rules

  • The AI updates only empty contact fields

  • Existing data is never overwritten

  • Email and phone numbers are updated automatically when detected

  • Changes are saved immediately after the action runs

Common Issues and Fixes

Contact field was not updated

Cause: The prompt did not ask for the information.
Fix: Add a clear question to the bot’s prompt and retry.

Existing data did not change

Expected behavior.
Add Contact Info never overwrites existing contact information.

Action exists but never runs

Cause: The AI was never given the required data in conversation.
Fix: Ensure the contact actually provides the information in their reply.
