Who This Is For / When to Use
Use this article if you currently own a Community Group and need to assign ownership to another member while remaining in the group as an admin.
Before You Start
You must be the current group owner.
The new owner must already be a member of the group.
Ownership can only be held by one person at a time.
Step 1: Open the Community Groups Page
Navigate to Memberships from the left-hand menu.
Click Communities.
Select Groups to view all Community Groups.
Step 2: Locate the Group Owner Field
Find the Community Group you want to update.
In the group card, locate the Owner field.
Click the pencil (edit) icon next to the owner name.
Step 3: Select the New Owner
In the Transfer Ownership modal, search for or scroll through the member list.
Select the member you want to assign as the new owner.
Only existing group members appear in this list.
Step 4: Confirm the Ownership Transfer
Review the confirmation message.
Check the I Confirm checkbox.
Click Transfer Ownership.
Important:
You will lose ownership rights.
Your role will automatically change to Group Admin.
Step 5: Verify Successful Transfer
A success message appears confirming the ownership change.
The new owner receives an email notification with a direct link to the group.
What Changes After Ownership Is Transferred
The new owner gains full ownership permissions.
You remain in the group as a Group Admin.
Ownership cannot be reverted automatically.
Common Issues and Fixes
I don’t see the pencil icon
Only the current group owner can transfer ownership.
The person I want isn’t listed
The new owner must already be a member of the group.
I transferred ownership by mistake
Ask the new owner to manually transfer ownership back to you.
The new owner didn’t accept anything
Ownership transfers immediately after confirmation. No acceptance step is required.
