Announcement Channels give Community Admins and Owners a read-only space to share critical updates that stay visible and are not lost in regular discussions.

Who This Is For / When to Use

Use Announcement Channels if you are a Community Admin or Owner and need a controlled channel for official updates, promotions, course unlocks, or time-sensitive announcements.

What Is an Announcement Channel

An Announcement Channel is a special Community channel where:

  • Only Admins and Owners can post and comment.

  • Members have read-only access.

  • Important posts can be pinned for visibility.

  • The channel can be public or private.

  • The channel can be reverted to a regular channel at any time.

Key Capabilities

Controlled Posting

  • Only Admins and Owners can create posts or comments.

  • Members can view content but cannot interact.

Visibility and Pinning

  • Announcement posts support pinning.

  • Pinned announcements remain at the top of the channel.

Flexible Access

  • Announcement Channels can be:

    • Public (visible to all members)

    • Private (invite-only)

How to Create an Announcement Channel

Option 1: Create a New Announcement Channel

  1. In your Community sidebar, click + Add Channel.

  2. Enter the channel name and description.

  3. Enable Read Only Channel.

  4. (Optional) Enable Make this channel private.

  5. Click Create Channel.

Option 2: Convert an Existing Channel to Announcement Mode

  1. Open the channel you want to convert.

  2. Click the Settings (βš™οΈ) icon next to the channel name.

  3. Open the Settings tab.

  4. Enable Restrict Members from posting.

  5. (Optional) Enable Make Channel Private.

Result:
The channel becomes an Announcement Channel with read-only access for members.

How to Post in an Announcement Channel

  1. Open the Announcement Channel.

  2. Click Create Post.

  3. Add your announcement content.

  4. Publish the post.

  5. (Optional) Pin the post for ongoing visibility.

Converting an Announcement Channel Back to a Regular Channel

  1. Open the Announcement Channel.

  2. Click the Settings (βš™οΈ) icon.

  3. Disable Restrict Members from posting.

  4. Save changes.

Result:
Members can now create posts and comments again.

Notifications Related to Announcements and Learning

Announcement Channels work alongside Community notifications to keep members informed.

Admins and members receive notifications for:

  • Level upgrades (in-app and push)

  • Level-based course unlocks (in-app, email, push)

  • Time-based course unlocks (in-app, email, push)

These notifications are enabled by default.

Common Questions

Can members comment in Announcement Channels?

No. Only Community Admins and Owners can post or comment.

Can I pin multiple announcements?

Yes. Multiple posts can be pinned at the same time.

Can Announcement Channels be private?

Yes. Admins can restrict visibility to invited members only.

Can members mute Announcement Channels?

Members may mute channels, but pinned announcements remain visible when they open the channel.

Are notifications optional?

Notifications are enabled by default and cannot be disabled at the Admin level.
