Community Chat Feature

The Community Chat feature allows private 1-on-1 messaging between members of the same community group on desktop and mobile.

Who This Is For / When to Use

This feature is for community members and admins who want to communicate privately with other group members without leaving the community.

Use Community Chat when:

  • Members need private 1-on-1 conversations

  • Admins want direct communication with users

  • Communities require secure, member-only messaging

Important Requirement to Use Community Chat

You must be a member of a community group to start or receive chats. Only members of the same group can message each other.

Community Chat Features

Private 1-on-1 Messaging

Community Chat supports direct, private conversations between two group members, including admins and regular users.

Media and File Sharing

Chats support sharing:

  • Images and photos

  • Files and documents

  • GIFs and emojis

Real-Time Notifications

Push notifications alert users instantly when a new message is received, with optional sound alerts.

How to Access Community Groups

  1. Click Memberships in the left sidebar

  2. Select Communities at the top

  3. Click Groups to view all available groups

  4. Click Login on the group you want to enter

How to Enable or Disable Community Chat

Community Chat availability can be managed from account settings.

  1. Click Manage Your Account from the profile menu

  2. Open Account Settings

  3. Select Communities & Chats

  4. Toggle chat On or Off for specific groups

How to Access Chat on Desktop

Chats are accessed from within a group.

From the Members List

  1. Open the group

  2. Go to Members

  3. Click the Chat icon in the top-right corner

  4. Select a member and click Start Chatting

From a Member Profile

  1. Click a member’s name

  2. Open their profile

  3. Click Chat

What You Can Do Inside the Chat Window

Send Messages and Media

The chat window allows sending:

  • Text messages

  • Images and videos

  • Files and documents

  • GIFs and emojis

Manage Chat Options

Each chat includes an options menu for managing interactions.

Available options:

  • View Profile

  • Delete Chat

  • Block User

Block Unwanted Messages

Blocking a user prevents them from sending you messages.

To block a user:

  1. Open the chat

  2. Click the options dropdown

  3. Select Block User

Using Community Chat on Mobile

Community Chat is fully supported on mobile apps.

  1. Open the app and go to Community

  2. Tap the message icon in the top-right corner

  3. View existing chats or search for a member

  4. Tap a chat to reply

Common Issues and Fixes

I Can’t Start a Chat

This usually means the user is not part of the same group.

Fix:

  • Confirm both users are members of the same group

Chat Option Is Missing

Chat may be disabled for the group.

Fix:

  • Check Communities & Chats settings

  • Enable chat for the group

Not Receiving Notifications

Notifications may be disabled at the device level.

Fix:

  • Enable push notifications in device settings

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I chat with users outside my group?

No. Community Chat only works between members of the same group.

Can I delete a chat conversation?

Yes. Deleting a chat removes it from your view but not from the other user’s inbox.

Can admins disable chat for specific groups?

Yes. Admins can toggle chat availability per group from Communities & Chats settings.

Are chats private?

Yes. Community Chats are private 1-on-1 conversations between members.
