This article is for users who want to automate Facebook ad targeting by syncing contacts from workflows into Facebook Custom Audiences.
Use this action when you need to:
Add new leads to retargeting audiences.
Sync contacts after form submissions, tag changes, or other workflow triggers.
Keep Facebook Custom Audiences updated without manual uploads.
Prerequisites
Before using this action:
A Facebook account must be connected.
A Facebook page must be selected.
The contact must already exist as a lead with valid identifying data.
Step 1: Create or Open a Workflow
Navigate to Automations.
Click Workflows.
Select Create Workflow or open an existing workflow from the list.
Step 2: Add or Confirm Workflow Triggers
Review existing triggers at the top of the workflow.
Click Add New Trigger if needed.
Configure the trigger that should add contacts to the Facebook audience.
Step 3: Add the Facebook – Add To Custom Audience Action
Click the + icon below the trigger.
The Actions panel opens on the right.
Search for Facebook.
Under Marketing, select Facebook – Add To Custom Audience.
Step 4: Configure the Action
(Optional) Update the Action Name for easier identification in the workflow.
Select the Facebook Account ID from the dropdown.
Choose the correct Custom Audience associated with that account.
Step 5: Save the Action
Click Save Action in the bottom-right corner of the action panel.
Confirm the action appears in the workflow builder.
Step 6: Save, Test, and Publish the Workflow
Click Save in the workflow builder.
Use Test Workflow to verify proper execution.
Toggle the workflow status to Publish when ready.
Common Issues and Fixes
Contacts Are Not Added to the Audience
Confirm the Facebook account and page are correctly connected.
Ensure the contact has valid identifying information (email or phone).
Verify the workflow is Published, not in Draft.
Workflow Runs but Audience Does Not Update
Facebook requires a minimum of approximately 100 matched contacts before ads can run.
Audience updates may take time to process inside Facebook Ads Manager.
Action Fails During Testing
Re-check the selected Facebook account and Custom Audience.
Confirm the workflow trigger conditions are met during the test.
