Workflow Premium Action: Slack

The Slack premium workflow action sends automated messages to Slack users or channels when workflow conditions are met.

Who This Is For / When to Use

Use this action when a workflow needs to notify a team in Slack about events such as new leads, task updates, errors, or status changes.

What the Slack Premium Action Does

The Slack premium action delivers messages from workflows directly into Slack. Messages can be sent to individual users, private channels, or public channels.

Supported events:

  • Send Direct Message to a User

  • Send Private Channel Message

  • Send Public Channel Message

Prerequisites

Before using the Slack workflow action:

  • A Slack workspace must exist

  • Slack must be connected from Account Settings β†’ Integrations

  • Premium Triggers and Actions must be enabled on the account

Add the Slack Action to a Workflow

  1. Go to Automation.

  2. Select Workflows.

  3. Click Create Workflow.

Add an Action Step

  1. In the workflow builder, click the + icon below the trigger.

  2. Click Please select action.

Select Slack from Communication Actions

  1. Expand Communication.

  2. Select Slack.

Connect a Slack Account

If Slack is not connected yet:

  1. Click Connect.

  2. Enter your Slack workspace URL.

  3. Complete the Slack authorization flow.

Configure the Slack Action

Choose Account

Select the connected Slack account that the message will be sent from.

Select Event

Choose how the message will be delivered:

  • Send Direct Message to a User

  • Send Private Channel Message

  • Send Public Channel Message

Depending on the selected event, additional fields such as user, channel, and message body will appear.

Message Content

  • Messages support workflow variables

  • Use variables to personalize notifications

  • Keep messages concise to avoid notification fatigue

Test and Activate the Workflow

  1. Click Test Workflow to confirm message delivery.

  2. Switch from Draft to Publish.

  3. Click Save to activate the workflow.

Common Issues and Fixes

Slack Message Not Delivered

  • Verify the Slack integration is connected

  • Confirm the selected channel or user exists

Permission Errors

  • Ensure the Slack workspace granted message permissions

  • Reconnect Slack if permissions were changed

Workflow Runs but Slack Step Fails

  • Check Execution Logs for Slack errors

  • Confirm Premium Actions are enabled on the account

Important Notes

  • Slack actions are premium and billed per execution

  • If Slack becomes disconnected, the workflow continues but the Slack step fails

  • Errors appear in Workflow Execution Logs
