Using the Do Not Disturb (DND) Feature

The Do Not Disturb (DND) feature controls whether a contact can send or receive communications across email, SMS, calls, and other channels in Kyrios.

Updated over 3 months ago

Who This Is For / When to Use

Use DND when a contact unsubscribes, opts out, requests limited communication, or when Kyrios automatically blocks delivery due to compliance, carrier errors, or spam prevention.

What the DND Feature Does

DND prevents outbound and inbound communications to a contact without deleting their contact record.

You can apply DND to all channels or specific channels only, depending on the contact’s preference or system rules.

Where to Find DND Settings on a Contact

  1. Open the contact record.

  2. Select the DND tab.

  3. Review available DND options by channel.

Available DND Options

DND All Channels

Blocks all inbound and outbound communication for the contact.

Channel-Specific DND

Allows granular control by channel:

  • Email

  • Text Messages

  • Calls & Voicemail

  • Inbound Calls and SMS

How to Enable or Disable DND Manually

  1. Open the contact record.

  2. Click the DND tab.

  3. Check or uncheck:

    • DND All Channels, or

    • Individual channel checkboxes.

  4. Changes save automatically.

This immediately controls whether Kyrios can send or receive messages on those channels.

DND Status Types

DND On

  • No automated or manual inbound or outbound messages are allowed.

  • This applies to all channels.

DND Off

  • All automated and manual messages function normally.

DND Partial

  • Some channels are blocked while others remain active.

Email DND Behavior

When Email DND Is Enabled Automatically

Email DND turns on automatically when:

  • A contact unsubscribes.

  • An email is marked as spam.

  • Permanent ISP failures occur (bounce, complaint, suppression).

Removing Email DND

  • You can disable Email DND manually except when marked as spam.

  • For spam or suppression issues, the email must be removed from the ISP suppression list before disabling DND.

SMS DND Behavior

When SMS DND Is Enabled Automatically

SMS DND is enabled when:

  • A contact replies with opt-out keywords (STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE).

  • Carrier or delivery errors are returned.

Removing SMS DND

  • Permanent SMS DND: Requires the contact to reply START or verified opt-in evidence submitted to support.

Using Unsubscribe Links

You can insert unsubscribe trigger links into emails or SMS messages.

  1. Open the message composer.

  2. Click the ⚡ Trigger Links icon.

  3. Select Unsubscribe Link.

This automatically updates the contact’s DND status when clicked.

Automating DND with Workflows

You can trigger workflows based on DND changes.

Example Trigger: Contact DND Enabled

  • Trigger: Contact DND

  • Filters:

    • DND direction = Inbound

    • DND flag = Enabled DND for all channels

Use this to stop campaigns, notify staff, or log compliance actions.

Important Default Behavior

If a contact unsubscribes from any communication channel, Kyrios automatically enables DND for all channels.

You can manually re-enable specific channels if the contact explicitly allows them.

Common Issues and Fixes

Emails or SMS Not Sending

Check the contact’s DND tab to confirm the channel is not blocked.

Contact Wants Only One Channel

Disable DND All Channels, then enable DND only for restricted channels.

SMS Permanently Blocked

Confirm whether the block was caused by error code 30004 or an opt-out keyword.
