Authenticator App Support for Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Kyrios supports authenticator apps for two-factor authentication (2FA), allowing users to secure their accounts using time-based one-time passcodes instead of relying only on email or SMS.

Updated over 3 months ago

Who This Is For / When to Use

This article is for Kyrios users who want to add an extra layer of account security by using an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy.

What Is Authenticator App–Based 2FA?

Authenticator app–based 2FA uses a time-based one-time password (TOTP) generated by a mobile or desktop authentication app. After setup, users enter a rotating 6-digit code from their authenticator app during login to verify their identity.

This method reduces the risk of unauthorized access compared to email or SMS verification alone.

Supported Authenticator Apps

Kyrios works with any standard TOTP-compatible authenticator app, including:

  • Google Authenticator

  • Microsoft Authenticator

  • Authy

  • Other RFC 6238–compatible authenticator apps

How to Enable Authenticator App 2FA

Enabling authenticator app–based 2FA takes only a few steps and is completed from the user profile.

  1. Go to Settings > My Profile.

  2. Locate the Two-factor Authentication (2FA) App section.

  3. Click Setup Two-factor Authentication (2FA) App.

Scan the QR Code or Enter the Setup Key

During setup, Kyrios displays a QR code and a manual setup key.

  • Open your authenticator app.

  • Scan the QR code or manually enter the setup key.

  • The app will begin generating a 6-digit verification code.

Verify the Authentication Code

To complete setup, Kyrios requires verification from the authenticator app.

  1. Enter the 6-digit code generated by your authenticator app.

  2. Submit the code to confirm setup.

After verification, authenticator app–based 2FA is enabled for the account.

Backup Codes and Account Recovery

After enabling 2FA, Kyrios generates backup codes for account recovery.

Backup codes:

  • Can be used if the authenticator app is unavailable

  • Are single-use and expire once used

  • Should be stored securely offline

Users can copy all codes or download them as a PDF for safekeeping.

If backup codes are lost or compromised, new codes can be generated from Settings > My Profile.

Using Authenticator App During Login

When logging in after setup, users can choose how to verify their identity.

Available options may include:

  • Authenticator app code

  • Email verification

  • SMS verification

Selecting Use Authenticator prompts for the current 6-digit code from the authenticator app.
